NBEC 6905 was an SD40, formerly CN 5010 (class GF-30d). It was built in 1968, retired from CN on April 24, 1998, and rebuilt by Alstom by the spring of 1999 for the New Brunswick East Coast Railway.
The NBEC operated it for 10 years on main line trains in New Brunswick and Quebec.
After the purchase of the NBEC by CN, 6905 was sold by CN to the Dakota Missouri Valley and Western (DMVW) Railroad in North Dakota in early 2009. The DMVW turned around and sold 6905 to a grain elevator company in Westby, Montana.
