Minto used to be served by rail, but it was torn up in the 1990s. At one time it was extensively served by Canadian Pacific as well as the Canadian National Minto spur.
The town’s main industry was the NB Coal mining operation. It supplied coal to the nearby Grand Lake generating station, owned by NB Power.
The former train station is now a museum.
There is an ex-CN caboose standing beside the former train station in the downtown.
