I didn’t mean to see trains. Sure, I admit I keep a watchful eye out for them, but I was just running errands. Honest.
Just as I stepped out of my car next to Alter Ego Sports, I heard a train blowing for a crossing. It could only be CP or CN crossing Kenaston Boulevard.
I hopped back into my car and drove across the parking lot to witness a local train heading north on the La Riviere subdivision under smoky skies.
A pair of Canadian Pacific Geeps were pulling a string of hoppers and tank cars. I framed the shot below to catch the train and the HomeSense sign, but I really ended up photographing a tree.
As an aside, if you’re looking for gear for your bicycle, you can’t go wrong with Alter Ego Sports. Great selection, reasonable prices, and a very helpful staff.
After I bought my stuff (a lock, a headlight, and a bell) I decided to take the long way home. Heading west on Wilkes Avenue, I discovered a CEMR train parked at the “usual spot” at the end of their Carman subdivision next to Wilkes. The train had ex CN GMD1 #1009 on the point with another ancient locomotive, CEMR 4001, trailing.
Sssshhh. The train is sleeping. Walk softly. It’s had a hard day at work and it needs a nap.
It was my evening of bad composition. Do you like the sign post blocking the view of 4001’s cab? I don’t! 🙂
Heh… I suppose there was bad traffic heading south on Kenaston, so you *had* to take the long way home 🙂
Uh, yeah, let’s go with that, Jeff! 🙂
🙂 I can relate.
