I want to wish blog partner Eric Gagnon a hearty “happy anniversary” on this auspicious day, the 15th anniversary of the start of his great blog, Trackside Treasure.
It’s quite an accomplishment to keep writing for fifteen years, whether it’s on paper or using bits. There aren’t a lot of railway blogs that have survived for that long.
I think Eric has managed to keep writing so consistently (50-60 times per year) because he doesn’t write about the same things. Most of his posts are solidly railway-related, but they range widely in topic and indeed in scale. He sprinkles posts about his model railroading amongst the full-size railroad posts, including his Hanley Spur and his summertime porch layouts.
Eric has also written eight books and I’m proud to have most of them on my bookshelves.
Throughout his writing, Eric includes his own wry humour, deep research and always accompanying alliteration.
Happy anniversary, Eric. Here’s to the next fifteen.
P.S. in case you’re wondering about the lead photo, it’s the train photo I took closest to when Eric started his blog. I took no photos on August 10, 2008 but I snapped that one on August 4th.
Thanks very much, Steve. It was great to meet you during our brief stopover in Winnipeg and to continue to read your [more senior] Canadian railway blog!
Eric
Love Eric’s blog – happy anniversary!
