CN Regina Line Car Control Manual

This is the CN Regina Line Car Control manual, dated June 15, 1981. It detailed the railway subdivisions around Regina, Saskatchewan including yards, sidings and industries.

This include details on what customers were served by which pieces of track, and all tracks had a designation to allow CN to track rail car movements using their internal computer system.

This manual is presented for historical reference. Much of this track no longer exists or has changed significantly. The remainder of this post has text and images from the manual. Obvious spelling mistakes have been corrected but the original grammar remains. View more car control manuals

  1. Blogging from the Rockies? Or perhaps this was in draft form and just published. Also, did you have to type in all the spur designations?

Brings back memories of elevator photography in some of those Subs.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Eric

    • Hi Eric, I had this week’s pair of posts all queued up before I left. No time for blogging when the mountains are calling!

I typed everything in. I thought about just scanning the pages but they wouldn’t be searchable.

  2. One thing that kept jumping out at me as I scrolled down reading was “Team Track”!
Just goes to show how important team tracks were at one time to every whistle stop across North America, and why everybody modeling that period should try to have at least one.
    Good stuff Steve!

  3. Although not as prevalent as team tracks, platforms are also quite common. Many times, these were nothing more than a wood beam retaining wall built to flatcar deck height that was located just outside of the track clearance profile. The field side of the retaining wall was backfilled with earth to create a ramp down to grade level. Machinery and equipment could be easily unloaded by rolling it off of the flatcar. The more substantial platforms might be gravel surfaced as opposed to being plain earth (or grass, or weeds).

    • I remember seeing a few platforms at Enniskillen on the NB Southern (former CP) that were used to load and unload military equipment from flatcars for the nearby CFB Gagetown training area.
